Polyhydron Radial Piston Pumps General Description & Features

• Polyhydron manufactures a variety of radial piston (radial plunger) pumps under different model series: e.g. 1R, 1RC/1RCE, 2R, 2RC, 11R, 12R etc.
• These pumps are typically oil-immersed, open execution, face mounting, valve controlled, and provide fixed displacement per revolution.
• The pump design uses a radial piston arrangement: multiple pistons (3, 5, 7, or sometimes 9) are arranged around a central shaft, each piston driven by eccentric motion.
• Many models allow bi-directional rotation (i.e. no restriction on rotation direction).
• Some variants (e.g., “RE” suffix) include an extension shaft for through-drive or coupling to another pump.
• They are used in hydraulic systems where a compact, fixed-displacement, high-pressure pump is needed.

Working Principle (Radial Piston Pump Basics)

• The central shaft contains an eccentric cam or ring which forces the pistons outward and inward in their cylinders.
• During the inward stroke (retraction), the suction valve opens, drawing fluid into the cylinder.
• During the outward stroke (extension), the fluid is pushed through the delivery valve to the outlet port.
• Because the pistons are arranged radially, the pump is compact and symmetrical.
• The valve-control element ensures correct timing of suction/delivery per piston as the shaft rotates.
• The pump provides a fixed displacement (i.e., fixed volume per revolution).
• Bi-directional capability means the pump can pump fluid in either direction of shaft rotation (depending on porting and valve arrangement).
